Stanley Spencer at Tate Liverpool
Stanley Spencer's uniquely British vision
01.03.2008
Stanley Spencer (1891–1959) is best known for his huge paintings that treat British village life in the manner of Renaissance frescoes, such as his masterpiece The Resurrection, Cookham, in which the lives (and deaths) of ordinary folk are tenderly offered up to our gaze. Author and Spencer fan Sîan Pattendon visits the current exhibition at Tate Liverpool.
